Chris Eubanks Featured Among Vox’s 2023 Future Perfect 50
APEX’s founder and executive director, Chris “Soul” Eubanks, has been included among Vox’s Future Perfect 50, an annual list spotlighting thinkers, activists, and scholars who are working to transform the world for the better through new ways of thinking and interacting with the challenges that face the world.
Vox’s profile of Chris details his unique journey through the animal rights movement, from being inspired as a teen to go vegetarian after reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X to founding APEX Advocacy as a way to inspire more BIPOC to become animal rights activists. The article also includes Chris’s philosophical approach to intersectional animal advocacy: “As long as we are continuing to contribute to the normalization of exploiting others, it’s always going to have an impact on our overall society.”
The team at APEX is incredibly proud of Chris, not simply for being included among the Future Perfect 50, but for bringing the message of collective liberation to a mainstream audience which will no doubt normalize this radical and empowering approach to universal justice. The fact that a popular media outlet is giving voice to a small but growing form of intersectional animal advocacy is proof that our approach resonates with more and more activists, and that we no longer have to conduct our advocacy in traditional or established ways simply because that’s the way it’s always been done. We must evolve if we are to achieve the goal of total liberation.
Vox, a digital media outlet with nearly 20 million monthly unique visitors, has taken a remarkably progressive and inclusive approach to the issue of animal rights for several years, regularly featuring content that examines not only the environmental and health impacts of animal agriculture, but the moral issues relevant to nonhuman animal exploitation in a world that views them as little more than objects. It is no exaggeration to claim that of all mainstream media outlets, Vox has been the most consistent in voicing animal rights issues.
